Product detail

1. Product Overview

A pump strainer is a device that combines a check valve and a filter screen, installed at the lowest point of the suction line (foot end). Its main function is to maintain the liquid column inside the pipeline (priming) so the pump can start immediately, while preventing debris and contaminants from entering the pump chamber and damaging equipment.

2. Standard Technical Specifications

FeatureTechnical Details
Body MaterialCast iron, carbon steel, or stainless steel 304/316
Filter ScreenStainless steel 304 (corrosion- and rust-resistant)
Gasket MaterialNBR or Viton (fuel-resistant)
Connection TypeThreaded (for small sizes) or flanged (JIS 10K, ANSI 150)
SizeDN25 (1″) to DN500
Working PressurePN10, PN16, 10K

3. Why Pump Systems Always Require Strainers

  • Prevent loss of prime: The built-in check valve keeps fuel from flowing back into the tank when the pump stops. Without a strainer, the system must be re-primed at each start, wasting time and risking seal damage from dry running.
  • Protect the pump chamber: The filter screen blocks solid particles, metal shavings, or debris from entering the pump, protecting gears and impellers from jamming or scratching.
  • Energy efficiency: Ensures the pump achieves optimal suction pressure from the very first second.

4. Key Features

  • Optimized flow design: Filter screen area is typically 3–4 times larger than the pipe cross-section, minimizing suction pressure drop.
  • High sealing performance: Precision-machined valve disc with oil-resistant rubber ensures stable pressure retention.
  • Self-cleaning capability: Strainer shape prevents debris from fully clogging the screen, keeping flow continuous.
  • Durable materials: Thick cast iron or steel body withstands impact and high pressure at the tank bottom.

5. Practical Applications

  • Underground fuel tanks: Installed at the suction end inside buried tanks at gas stations.
  • Water supply and drainage stations: Prevents debris entry and maintains water for large centrifugal pumps.
  • Marine vessels: Used in bilge pumps or fuel transfer systems in ship holds.
  • Firefighting systems: Ensures pipelines are always primed with water for immediate activation of fire pumps.
