Product detail

1. Product Overview

A butt-welded steel tee is a T-shaped fitting used to create a branch from the main pipeline. Unlike threaded tees typically used for small pipes, butt-welded tees are welded directly to the pipe ends, forming a completely sealed system capable of withstanding vibration and very high pressure.

2. Detailed Technical Specifications

StandardsASME/ANSI B16.9, JIS, DIN
Connection TypeButt-weld (beveled ends for welding)

3. Classification by Application

  • Equal Tee: Branch diameter equals the main pipe diameter. Used when splitting flow evenly or directing flow to another area with the same capacity.
  • Reducing Tee: Branch diameter is smaller than the main pipe. Commonly used to extract a smaller amount of fuel from a large pipeline to feed auxiliary pumps or smaller tanks.

4. Key Advantages

  • Uniform pressure resistance: Forging and hot forming processes ensure even wall thickness, better resistance to pressure shocks (water hammer) compared to mechanical fittings.
  • Space-saving: More compact than flange-based dividers, making piping systems lighter and easier to support.
  • Corrosion protection: Surfaces are often black-painted or galvanized to resist moisture and chemical exposure in fuel depots.
  • Strong weld joints: Pre-beveled ends allow welders to create deep penetration welds, ensuring leak-free performance throughout the system’s lifespan.

5. Practical Applications

  • Fuel distribution systems: Branching from main pipelines to fuel dispensers or separate storage tanks.
  • Firefighting systems: Creating branches for hydrants from high-pressure water lines.
  • Shipbuilding industry: Complex networks of fuel and compressed air pipelines under ships.
  • Chemical industry: Transporting solvents and industrial liquids.
